Storm

Storm was painted by Biswas during her Residency at Square Lab, Bombay in 2018. Residing close to the ocean front during her time in Bombay - the city from which Biswas and her family had originally departed India from in 1966 - Biswas undertook a brief research period in preparation for her film Lumen, 2021 which was already in development at this time. Completed in 2021, Biswas's film is co-commissioned by Film and Video Umbrella (FVU) with Bristol Museums, BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art, Gateshead and Kettle's Yard, University of Cambridge. In Biswas's small painting 'Storm', as the title suggests Biswas revisits the emotional connections to her family's moment of departure from India and their sojourn across the Indian Ocean to a distant land.
